Now that I think of it, I may have updated my nVidia driver around the same time causing this problem but the modding tools I was about to use seemed a more likely culprit. No amount of game reinstalls, deleting/moving all of the save and config files, and deleting registry keys I could find related to Trials of Mana fixed anything because this state (the region the game thinks it's being played in) is synced to the SteamCloud. The game was clearly not in a good state. Also, the control assignment menu itself was messed up in that it drew "+" sign on top of controls I didn't re-assign, and I couldn't seem to re-assign right stick or left sticks. This carried through for text advance in the game I believe and controller settings wouldn't fix this. In Japan, confirm is 'O' (or 'B' on XBox), but in America, 'X' (or 'A' on XBox) is confirm on menus typically. The reason you want to do this procedure is because even though I was able to find the English text setting and set it, the game was still in a Japanese mode by the title screen graphics and the less than configurable "confirm" title menu button. You will have to re-customize your controls and other settings again. When you run ToM again Steam will see the difference between your local files and cloud files, so tell it to use your local files (they should be newer if you ran after re-install). Close the game again and turn Steam CloudSync back on everywhere. You can run the game again and verify that your saves work first and you're playing on the English version. Close the game, and now you can put your actual save files back. ![]() Reinstall and run the game it should come back with the English version settings and be completely brand new. Google/YouTube search how to do this but here is a broad explanation if you're capable of sorting out the details yourself: First, backup your saves (the 1-12 slots, nothing else) disable Steam CloudSync globally and specifically Trials of Mana uninstall the game delete your configs and all of the saved data for ToM in their folders. ![]() The real fix for this is needing to reset Steam CloudSync save information to erase the state switch to Japan region.
